Miami-based Argentine singer La Gata (The Cat), 78, is a showgirl, a world traveler, an orphan and a single woman, but most importantly, she is an incarnation of the tango, a genre of music which she says sings to all aspects of life. This documentary uses her story past and present to explore societal concerns of beauty and aging, as well as immigration and cultural preservation. Through her performances at local venues in Miami, La Gata is helping her audiences, especially younger generations of immigrant artists, come to terms with these social concerns. Her dramatic interpretations of the tango take them on a journey through her nine lives: the loves and losses, the adventures and hardships, and the secret spark that keeps her spirit young regardless of the wrinkles.
